Swedish electric surfboard manufacturer Awake Boards has revealed its newly launched model, RÄVIK, has been awarded two design awards in the first quarter of 2019.
The first award RÄVIK won was the iF Design Award 2019, becoming the first in its category to receive the world-renowned seal of design excellence – and the first ever gas- or electric-powered surfboard in the award’s history.
Each year the world’s oldest independent design organisation, Germany-based iF International Forum Design GmbH, hosts the awards that recognises ‘the innovative power of design’. The 2019 competition featured 6,375 entries from 52 countries, with a 67-member jury of industry experts tasked with identifying outstanding new products.
Soon after, RÄVIK was announced as the recipient of a Red Dot Design Award 2019 – the first electric surfboard ever to be recognised.
Discussing the iF Design Award win, Awake product designer Brendon Vermillion, said, “The entire Awake team is thrilled and honoured to receive the iF Design Award as a result of our ongoing pursuit of excellence.
“Making RÄVIK real and stunning is a combined effort every one of us is proud of. From now on, we share this unique experience of making history out of a small beginning.”
