Finnish Pilots will race under Sharjah colors

United Arab Emirates Sharjah has signed a multi-year co-operation agreement with the F1 World Championships. Roms and Seliö will begin the season with Sharjah Team’s colors, the Finnish F1 pilots will both compete in the F1 series, double-world champion Sami Seliö and Filip Roms.

In addition, Sharjah supports Finnish teams in the F2 World Championship and besides the F1 competition, where Finnish colors are represented by Alec Weckström. Sharjah’s and the Finnish team’s multi-year cooperation agreement also have an article for Roms activies.

Roms sees the multiannual contract as a major turn for drivers and even for Finnish motor sports.

Filip Roms got a new sponsor and is able to continue his career in a top-notch event.

“It is clear that financial support is important in cooperation. This is a great thing, because the cooperation will provide a better starting point for the upcoming series. For our career, this is again a clear progress. We get an office in Sharjah and so we can also practice there. We can even test between the races and practice even on an upcoming track.”

Seliö and Roms, as Sharjah Team drivers, start hunting World Championships on March 30 in Saudi Arabia, Dammam.

The team is still in Finnish ownership and the head office is domiciled in Finland. World Championships and Championships Ferdinandia (Zandenberg, F2 class driver) with the exception of Finnish licenses.

“We know Sami very well he is a top competitor so we started discussion last year and now Sharjah Team is a reality and it gives us a wonderful opportunity to promote Sharjah as a top tourist destination at events all over the world. We will also support the team in the F2 and F4-S championship and to encourage and introduce young drivers into the sport, with Sami, we will establish a training center in Sharjah.”

The opening round of the UIM F1H2O World Championship takes place in Dammam, Saudi Arabia on 28-30 March, with Selio confirming that for the eighth season his teammate will be fellow-countryman Filip Roms.
