Nobiskrug reveals new rendering of 80 metre Artefact

German yard Nobiskrug has revealed a new rendering of its 80 metre in-build superyacht formerly known as Project 790.

Designed by Gregory C Marshall, Artefact is set to complete construction in 2019.

It is the latest project from the Privinvest-owned yard, which delivered the 142.81 metre Sailing Yacht A to Russian owner Andrey Melnichenko last year.

The yacht will be built from steel, aluminium and teak while the exterior will feature a large amount of custom and curved glass. The interiors meanwhile will be handled by Reymond Langton Design.

A key feature of the design is an impressive central section of glasswork, which includes 223 pieces of glass and weighs around 70 tonnes. This particular feature convinced the yard that no-one would be brave enough to build it.

Marshall described the moment he presented the original 55 metre design to the owner and his family.

“We thought there was absolutely no way we could talk anyone into building this boat. We were working with this family who thought this concept design was something that they might be interested in. When we first presented the idea they loved it they just wanted it bigger,” he said.

Marshall increased the length of the yacht to 80 metres at the owners’ request.

“What didn’t change was the purity of the design,” he said.

Pascale Reymond, who designed the interiors, said: “The shape and size of windows really became a springboard for us for some incredible design.” Further details about the interior design remain under wraps.

The yard has revealed that the yacht will include a number of new technological and engineering features to minimise its environmental impact. These include the use of solar panels and a large battery storage system which allows the boat to operate without internal combustion engines for a limited time.

The boat is also fitted with a positioning system, which can hold the boat’s position without dropping anchor to protect the sea floor. It also features a system which enables the reuse of waste water as technical water.

Captain Aaron T. Clark, who is acting as the owner’s representative, previously said: “A primary focus of the owner was to minimise the environmental impact of the vessel using advanced technology. As a result, there are many unique and environmentally friendly aspects of both the operational and engineering design in this project.”

Managing director Holger Kahl added: “This project is a true example of the owner’s focus and his vision to build a distinctive state of the art hybrid superyacht with as many integrated environmentally friendly features as possible.

The yacht is among the first superyachts to meet IMO Tier III emissions regulation and features an innovative diesel electric propulsion system developed with electric motor manufacturer ABB.

The finished yacht will attend the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show.
