Co-founder of Red Yacht Design Fatih Sürekli speaks about the studio’s new tender and some MYS news…
Turkish yacht designer, Red Yacht Design has partnered with Scandinavian boat designer Flying Flipper to unveil a new modern looking tender called the Superfly GT 42. According to Red Yacht Design, the basis of the project is to combine “outstanding driving and racing performance with excellent family comfort.”
At 13m, the new tender design is strongly based on Red Yacht Design’s racing pedigree and strikes a distinct figure from anything currently on the tender market. In line with the racing theme, the primary inspiration for the design of the tender is supercar styling. “In order to support this idea, we have been inspired by the sophisticated surface styling of a number of supercars and combined that way of thinking into our exterior and interior style,” explains co-founder of Red Yacht Design Fatih Sürekli.
In order to keep weight down to a minimum, lightweight carbon is to be used for its strength and weight attributes. The Superfly GT 42 is also intended for use all year around and, as a result, has a sliding hard top that can be utilised when the weather isn’t favourable. Outboard engines have also been employed in order to create a more enclosed feel inside the aft cabin.
“Choosing outboard engines with the enclosed aft section is quite a different design feature from all the boats in the market in this range,” says Sürekli. “Furthermore, choosing outboard engines gives us another advantage in that there is no need for air inlets, but we didn’t want to remove them because that place is a really important styling point in the Superfly GT 42. So, we took a different approach to that issue and decided to place windows in that area, which is probably the coolest part of the interior.”
Red Yacht Design and Flying Flipper have created a combination of modern power solutions including double Mercury 400 HP engines, triple Seven Marine 627 HP engines, which provides a total of 1881 HP on the stern, as well as a hybrid version being available with two outboard engines and an electric motor.
The design is modern and reflects the studios ethos. “Our office is mostly excited about modern designs and our vision is to be open to new thinking,” says Sürekli. “That’s why we like challenging projects, we can certainly say that our signature style is looking towards the future.”
Currently the studio is also working on an array of interesting projects, including three different hybrid yachts for Sarp Yachts called the XSR series, which will be unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show. The studio is also working on a 70m project (both exterior and interior), for a German owner as well as two further 12m superyacht tenders, which are currently under construction.
