Mehmet Karabeyoglu established Turkey-based Turquoise Yachts, then known as Proteksan Turquoise, in 1997. Since that time, about 30 megayachts have emerged under the Proteksan Turquoise and Turquoise Yachts brands, under his watch. Come July, Karabeyoglu is stepping down as CEO. A veteran of the yachting industry, Patrik von Sydow will assume the role.
Several changes in management are pending at Turquoise Yachts, all of which will come into effect during July 2019. The original founder and shareholder of the company Mehmet Karabeyoglu will relinquish his position as Turquoise Yachts CEO and continue as a member of the Board of Directors.
Working on the board alongside Dr Mohammed al Barwani and a new member of the board: previous COO and CTO of Oceanco: Arie Van Andel, Karabeyoglu will focus on the sales and marketing departments. The new move is part of the shipyard’s plan to expand and increase production.
Filling the footsteps of Karabeyoglu as the Turquoise Yachts CEO is Patrik von Sydow, who has previously managed engineering companies specialising in commercial and luxury yachts and automotive manufacturing. Patrik von Sydow previously active with yacht builders such as Danish Yachts and Numarine. He also has experience in the trucking and security sectors. He is still working as the CEO of Arctic Trucks since 2015. His knowledge further extends to commercial vessels.
“It is my absolute pleasure to welcome Patrik and Arie to our team,’’ commented Karabeyoglu. “Both will be able to contribute greatly to the continuing growth and evolution of Turquoise Yachts.”
