Vestas involved in collision in Volvo Ocean Race

Volvo Ocean Race officials say American-flagged Vestas 11th Hour Racing has collided with an unidentified vessel about 30 nautical miles short of the finish line of Leg 4.

Race officials say the crew was reported to be safe after the collision late Friday, with limited damage to the boat.

However, the online race tracker showed that the 60-foot sloop slowed to less than 4 knots and made no further progress.

Officials say there is no information about the condition of the other vessel.

Race Control asked team AkzoNobel to divert to the scene. Not long after, AkzoNobel resumed racing.

The crew reported the collision just minutes before Hong Kong-based Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag sailed into its home port ahead of the fleet to win the leg that started in Melbourne, Australia.
