Delivered in 2018 by the New-Zealand-based shipyard, Yachting Developments, Lanakai is one of the largest all-carbon sportsfisher superyachts in the world.
The four-deck 39.5-metre superyacht was created for highly experienced owners with an extensive inventory of fishing equipment and has already cruised extensively around New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
Having worked with the owner on a smaller yacht, Michael Peters Yacht Design created the naval architecture, whereas the exterior design is by Yacht Studio Ltd. Lanakai features a VEEM twin Gyrostabiliser unit, extensive onboard storage and a tailored cockpit equipped with fishing accessories such as a Pompanette fighting chair and three large live bait tanks.
“The Lanakai build began with a blank sheet, allowing ample space to accommodate every desire in luxurious fashion. As a fishing and diving platform, the vessel is truly enormous, and she incorporates everything expected of a sizable motor yacht in a sleek sportfisherman’s profile,” says Chris Critchett of Michael Peters Yacht Design.
The bridge can be used as a multi-purpose socialising area in addition to the skylounge, large games room and the alfresco dining area on the main-deck aft. Up a level, the sundeck has sun loungers and a control station, while the upper flybridge has an advanced helm station and a seating area.
“Lanakai is an impressive vessel on many levels – it is hard to come to grips with the size and scale of the vessel when she is viewed from a distance because all the details and lines are in harmony with the style,” says Ian Cook, Managing Director of Yachting Developments.
The owners worked with Yachting Developments’ interior division and Naylor Booth Associates to create the interior for Lanakai. A contemporary design was implemented throughout the superyacht, with blue, cream colours and accents of stained walnut. Up to 10 guests can be accommodated for in either the large full-beam master suite, VIP, double or twin with two Pullmans. Guests can also enjoy the large main saloon, which features a seating and dining area, entertainment system, bar and access to the modern galley.
Powered by twin MTU 4000 series engines, each with 3,150hp, Lanakai can reach top speeds of 29.5 knots. The yacht also carries two tenders: a 6.5-metre and a 4.8-metre Smuggler which are stored on the foredeck with a Nautical Structures crane for easy deployment.
