Victory Team’s five-time World Champion Kevin Reiterer handled top-level pressure managing to gain a podium spot at the end of Thai Airways Jet Ski World Cup 2018 that concluded in Pattaya, Thailand on 9th December, Sunday.
The Austrian won the top spot for a second time this season in the Ski GP1 category at the UIM-ABP Aquabike Grand Prix of the Mediterranean in Olbia, Italy earlier this summer.
Meanwhile, backed by Dubai-based Victory Team, the 26-year-old Reiterer did well to win the opening moto for a maximum 60 points. He was among the best once again in the second moto as he claimed a second spot behind Moto 2 winner the Belgian Quinten Van Den Bossche.
With two strong motos, Reiterer managed to cling on to the overall top spot with 113 points. He won just five points more than second placed Van Den Bossche.
During the third moto that was held on Sunday morning, Reiterer scored a third place. He managed to keep the first position with 161 points overall, leaving Frenchman Raphael Maurin in second spot with 154 points.
Luck was not on his side in the fourth and final moto on Sunday afternoon as Reiterer managed just 16 points whereas Maurin went all out for a win to take the overall honors with 214 points.
Van Den Bossche finished second overall with 189 points and Reiterer finished in third spot with 177 points.
A rather disappointed Reiterer told; “These things happen in racing and there is nothing we can do to rectify the situation now. I had my chances to go all out for a win, but the mechanical faults is not something that we can predict. Now it is time to turn back and see how best we can prepare for the final round of the UIM Aqua Bike Championships in Sharjah later this week.”
Participating in the final round on the Sharjah Corniche this weekend, Reiterer has put himself in a solid position for another world title.
So, Reiterer now leads the drivers’ standings in the Ski Division GP1 class with 95 points, straying clear of the chasing French pair of Raphael Maurin (81 points) and Mickael Poret (53points).
