Fabio Buzzi, Luca Nicolini and Eric Hoorn all lost their lives in a tragic powerboat accident on Tuesday night at Venice.
They passed away on Tuesday evening, 17th Sept., while trying to establish a new Record for the Route Monte Carlo to Venice.
Fabio Buzzi started his powerboating racing career in 1960 at the age of 17 and starting from that moment he achieved countless successes through his life. In 1971 he founded FB Design, to build leisure, military and racing boats. The high level of competences of this great engineer are reflected in the successes that he achieved as designer, FB Design boats won 52 World Offshore Championships, 22 European Offshore Championships, 27 Italian Offshore Championships and 40 World Speed Records were achieved with his designed boats.
Luca Nicolini was the owner of Nicolini Offshore, a company based in Oggiono, with headquarters in Via per Molteno, specialized in the design, construction and fitting out of racing or pleasure boats as well as in the construction of trailers and semi-trailers for the transport of racing or recreational hulls. Luca Nicolini, also a veteran racer, competed at the highest level in the sport, last racing in Class One for the Qatar team. Nicolini, in 2018, had been awarded by the Lecco Coni for his Class1 world record of Offshore.
Eric Hoorn had worked with Buzzi on previous record attempts, including the successful 2016 Monte Carlo to Venice speed record run.
